The Townsen Lake Preserve had a sandy trail to it, so it was impossible for us to get the TerraTrikes all the way there. About 100 yards from the bike trail and nearly in the middle of it, this clean, pleasant motel with the totally enclosed locking storage for your bike is just about ideal. The trail never seems crowed even if there is an organized ride with hundreds of participants. The Trailhead had plenty of parking, a nice bathroom, water fountain and several covered picnic tables. This one's done right. I'm 65 and it takes me five to six hours of easy cycling to ride the entire trail to the northern terminus. It was also nice to see vehicles patrolling the trail. I became a rider before coming from San Juan,Puerto Rico. We have 20oz water bottles and that for me on these hot days is not nearly enough. There are plenty of spots to stop and rest. My two days on the Withlacoochee surpassed my expectations with a trip through old Florida, small rural communities - all taking advantage of trail users with food and lodging options - and terrific natural areas. The description was good enough to warrant a look and the time to stop driving was right. Now I know to avoid using the trail during the Clean Air Ride in future years as those folks appear to want to monopolize the entire trail, while trying to crowd and bully slower bikers and being verbally unpleasant. The grades are easy to peddle and for the most part you are away from traffic noise. All along the trail there are benches, picnic tables, and gazebos. It's great!
