Kawah Ijen volcano located in the Ijen volcano complex at the eastern end of Java, Indonesia, released toxic gases on March 21, 2018, injuring 24 people. We have gathered all available historical reports on Kawah Ijen’s activity since 1770 with the purpose of reviewing the temporal evolution of its activity. It represents the only remaining active volcano on the Ijen Caldera Complex and has a long history of eruptions, the last of which took place in 1999.
